Bill ascends to the saddle from the snow lake we skirted. The west ridge, where we were, is above the lake and bowl; and above that, on the horizon, are the big peaks of the Fairweather Range.
At the saddle, I change to shorts and smother on sunscreen. My thermometer registers 78°F in the shade at 2300 feet. This is about as hot as it gets in Glacier Bay!
